Natyakala Taranga, NatyaShastra Dance Academy has organised Bharatanatyam Rangapravesham of Kum. Akshayasree, disciple of Guru Vidushi Manjula Rao S K on 31st March at “KALAGRAMA AUDITORIUM, MALATHAHALLI”, at 5.30 pm.
The Chief guests of the day are Guru. Vid. Smt. Shantha Padmanabhan – Retired Head Mistress and Dance Teacher, JagaJyothi Basaveshwara Girls High School, Guru. Vidushi Smt. Vasundhara Sampath Kumar – Artistic Director, Nataraja Nritya Shala, Dr. Chinmaya M. Rao – Founder and Principal, Swaramedha International Music Academy. Kum. Akshayasree is currently studying 10th class at Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan, Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
From the childhood, she has always shown keen interest in both music and dance. She has won many prizes in various competition that she has participated in.

About the Shishya Akshayasree C –
Akshayasree C, daughter of Smt. Sandhya Lakshmi and Sri. Chalapathi, born on 15th October 2009, was always eager to learn dance. To pursue her passion, she got enrolled in NatyaKala Taranga, a Natyashastra Dance academy run by Vid. Smt. Manjula Rao SK at a very young age of 5.
Thus enthused, Akshayasree immersed herself deeply into Bharatanatyam, attempting to achieve perfection at each and every step. She would put in extra hours to her practice. She worked hard to master the basic dance movements (adavus), Abhinaya and also 108 Karanas. Through dedication and innate talent, she has blossomed into remarkable artist making her Arangetram a significant milestone in her artistic life.
Akshayasree’s performance on stage has started at the age of 7 and then went on giving many others on stages like Natyanjali 2018, Navarathri special by Sri Sankara TV channel, Rashtriya Akhila Bharatha Nrityotsava, Rajarajeshwari Nagara Cultural Association, Rajaji Nagar Bhavasagara Vaibhava, Natya Kusumala Navaratri Dussehra Utsav 2020, Tirupati among many others. She was also a participant in the “Ananda Thandavam “dance held for World Records and Cultural Dance Festival held by Sangamam Global Academy and Department of Tourism, Puducherry.
Her skill has earned her honors, including “Rashtriya Natya Kala Tilaka” award for participating and showcasing her talent in Rashtriya Akhila Bharatha Nrityotsava and 3rd prize in Swara Kokila Jahnavi JayaPrakash Memorial Cultural Music and Dance Competition. Natya Nupura Award is presented by Sri Krishna Natarajalayam, Cultural Development Academy, Kuchipudi Kala kshetram, Tirupathi.
She also started her practice in Carnatic music with Mrs. Sudha and then later continuing with Dr. Chinmaya M.Rao, Swaramedha International Music Academy.
Akshayasree, currently in Class 10 at Sri Jnanakshi Vidya Nikethan school, is receiving vital support in both her curriculum and co-curricular activities from her school and dearest teachers, nurturing her holistic development and fostering her passion for learning and the arts.
Akshayasree’s passion to share her art form with the world did not stop at just performing to audiences.
She loves to mentor her juniors at NatyaKala Taranga as a young teenager as well.
With her persistent dedication to this sacred and divine art and profound humility, she seeks blessings of the Almighty, Parents, Gurus, Elders and Well-wishers as she continues in pursuing her aspirations, advancing step by step in the realm of dance.
About the Guru Vidushi Smt. Manjula Rao SK –
Manjula Rao, a highly skilled practitioner of Bharatanatyam deeply rooted in tradition, is the disciple of Guru. Smt. Shanthakumari Nambiyar, Guru. Kum. Godha, Guru. Smt. Kalashree. Rajalakshmi, Guru. Smt. Vasundhara Sampath Kumar, Artistic Director,Nataraja Nrithya Shala and Guru. Dr. Padma Subramanyam, a student and relative of Vidushi Vidhya Gopalan.
Under her Gurus guidance, Smt. Manjula Rao delved into NatyaShastra, Abhinaya, Nattuvangam and Karanas, always seeking blessings from her earlier teachers.
She has performed on various stages and has started her own dance institute, Natyakala Taranga, Natyashastra Dance Academy in RajaRajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore. She has been teaching for 40 years. Also, her contribution as a teacher has extended to high reputation schools like Valley school, BGS school, Chennamma memorial School and Jain School. She was also a member of Karnataka Dance Board, Bangalore and a Dance Board Examiner.
Her Performances included Girija Kalyana, Sree Krishna Leela, which has been performed at her teen age. She has received state awards 1982/83. Kalathapasvi has been awarded by her Guru, Smt. RajaLakshmi from Nataraja Natyashala. She has also been awarded as Srest Natya Guru from Bhavasara Kshatriya Samaja and there many more as such.
Her skills don’t remain just to dance, but to various other arts and skills. She worked as a Guest art lecturer in Karnataka Government Silk Board, Deputy Board Art Member for West Bengal branch, coordinator to Nabard Bank and Canara Bank for teaching Women Entrepreneur skills to Rural women and many more. She is working with Environmental team to promote planting trees to nature Mother Earth and with NGOs on Social activities. She has also worked as Logistic Manager in Karnataka Reliance. She also worked as Administrator at Sri Saligrama Venkateshwara Temple.
She remains dedicated to serving this divine art form and aspires to reach out this art to more students and bring them to greater heights in their future.
